What’s the difference between STEP 7 Basic and STEP 7 Professional?
STEP 7 Basic can only be used for programming Siemens S7-1200 PLCs but STEP 7 Professional can be used for programming S7-1200, S7-1500, S7-300, and S7-400 PLCs. This is the main difference.
You can use the basic version of STEP 7 to program the basic Siemens PLC series which is S7-1200 and you can use the professional version of STEP 7 to program all types of Simens S7 PLCs including S7-1200, 1500, 300, and 400 PLCs.
The price difference between STEP 7 Basic and STEP 7 Professional
If you are curious about the price difference, STEP 7 Basic is usually priced around €300 to €400 and STEP 7 Profesional is usually priced around €2400, although many Siemens partners and distributors sell these for a higher price.
Which version should you buy?
If you are a beginner, the best option for you is STEP 7 Basic.
